Police arrest two suspected car thieves, recover stolen Toyota Corolla in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of stealing a car and recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla.
Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspects — Michael Jatau, 39, and Haruna Aliyu Muhammad, 21 — were caught by officers of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) on October 13, 2025, around 11:25 a.m.
In a statement on Thursday, he said the suspects were found with a 2012 Toyota Corolla, dark ash in colour, with registration number KRD-13-FW, believed to have been stolen.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects snatched the vehicle in Abuja and brought it to Kano with the intent to sell it,” Kiyawa said.
He added that the two suspects confessed to the crime and would be charged to court after investigations are completed.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, praised the officers for their professionalism and thanked the public for their continued cooperation, especially through the community-based crime-fighting initiative, Operation Kukan Kura.
“The Command appreciates the public for their support and urges residents to keep sharing useful information that will help fight crime,” the police commissioner stated.
The Command also urged citizens to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
