NSCDC foils kidnap attempt, neutralizes two suspects, arrests others in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against criminality, neutralizing two suspected kidnappers, arresting two others, and recovering several weapons during a joint operation in Lafia and surrounding communities.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Jerry Victor, the operation was carried out on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, around 7:08 p.m. by the Commandant’s Crack Squad in collaboration with the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad.
The NSCDC operatives, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a group of armed kidnappers who were planning to abduct residents along Bukan Ari Kurikyo Road, Shabu, Sabon Pegi, Azuba, and other parts of Lafia Metropolis.
During the encounter, a fierce gun battle ensued, leading to the death of two suspects, while two others were apprehended.
One suspect, however, managed to escape and is currently being pursued by security operatives.
Recovered items from the scene include one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 40 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, five mobile phones, two knives and substances suspected to be charms.
Commandant Brah Samson Umoru, who assumed duty as the State Commandant on September 18, 2025, described the operation as a clear demonstration of the Corps’ renewed commitment to making Nasarawa State unsafe for criminal elements.
He noted that upon his assumption of office, he had conducted a comprehensive security assessment and launched proactive measures, including the formation of the Commandant’s Crack Squad and the revitalization of the Agro Rangers Unit to enhance surveillance and rapid response across the state.
“This success reflects our strategic shift toward intelligence-driven policing and community-based collaboration,” Commandant Umoru said.
“We will not rest until Nasarawa becomes a hostile environment for kidnappers and other criminal networks.”
He urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities in their areas, stressing that timely information is key to effective security response.
“If you see something, say something,” he reiterated. “Together, we can make Nasarawa State safer for everyone.”
