Police decry lack of coordination with lawyers over enforcement of court orders

The Nigeria Police Force has expressed concern over the growing lack of coordination and understanding between police officers and lawyers in enforcing court orders involving criminal suspects.
The Head of the Legal Department of Zone 1 Headquarters in Kano, Barrister CSP Nura Sa’idu, made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting organized by Partners West Africa Nigeria in collaboration with the Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative, aimed at strengthening cooperation and promoting harmony between the police and the legal community.
CSP Nura noted that, “the absence of synergy and mutual understanding between police officers and lawyers often causes delays in enforcing court orders, which can disrupt the administration of justice and threaten public peace.”
He emphasized the need to clearly define the roles and boundaries of each party to avoid interference, conflict, and procedural breakdowns that could undermine the justice system.
