Benin Republic midfielder, Junior Olaitan cannot hide his disappointment following the team’s failure to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, DAILY POST reports.
The Cheetahs went down 4-0 to the Super Eagles in their final group game at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Tuesday night.
The defeat put an end to their ambition of qualifying for the global soccer fiesta for the first time.
Olaitan said they were disappointed they couldn’t make their dream a reality.
“We have disappointed the people of our dear country, but we will never disappoint them forever. Things will get better,” the Goztepe midfielder said after the game.
Benin Republic will now shift attention to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in December.
