‎Two injured as firefighters battle 11-hour inferno at Yota Energy in Shai Hills


‎The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) fought a fierce battle for 11 hours to bring a massive fire at Yota Energy Company Ltd in Shai Hills under control. 

‎The fire, which started on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 11:04 a.m., was finally extinguished at 10:39 p.m.

‎The GNFS deployed four firefighting units to the scene, and firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.



‎The Tema Regional GNFS  Public Affairs Officer, Divisional Officer Grade II, Ebenezer Yenzu, told Graphic Online that the four firefighting teams were deployed to the scene, including the Base Pump from Gbetsile, and pumps from Devtraco, Motorway, and Tema Metro, as well as an excavator to support the operations, adding that the fire was finally extinguished at 10:39 pm.

‎Damage 

‎DO II Yenzu, who is also the Tema Metro Fire Commander, stated that the fire caused significant damage to industrial ovens, control boards, cutting machines, and binding machines; however, approximately 95 percent of the used tyres and a warehouse were salvaged from the fire.

‎He said two males, 27years and 25years respectively, sustained various degrees of burns and were transported to the Tema General Hospital before the arrival of the GNFS crew. ‎

‎Investigation underway

‎DO II Yenzu said the cause of the fire was currently under investigation by the GNFS, adding that a team of senior officers, led by ACFO II Patrick N. Sallah, Tema Regional Fire Commander, oversaw the response efforts.

‎He indicated that the Afienya District Police Commander was also present at the scene, ensuring public safety and assisting with the response efforts.
