PCG praised for contributions to agriculture

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has commended the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) for its remarkable contributions to the country’s agricultural development.

In a speech read on his behalf by his deputy, John Dumelo, at the 6th Development and Social Services (DSS) Consultation of the PCG in Abokobi, the Minister described the Church as a “credible and strategic partner” in advancing sustainable agriculture and food security.

“We recognise the PCG as a formidable force in Ghana’s socio-economic development, particularly in education, health, and agriculture,” the Minister said. “We look forward to deepening our collaboration with the Church in areas such as women and youth in agriculture, climate-smart farming, and agricultural infrastructure development.”

Mr. Opoku praised the Presbyterian Agricultural Services for its impactful work over the past five decades and urged the Church to continue its participation in the government’s Feed Ghana programme, which supports smallholder and commercial farmers.

Under its DSS Department, the PCG operates eight agricultural stations and project centres located in Garu, Tamale (Mile 7), Sandema, Langbensi, Tease, Abokobi, Katamanso (Cattle Ranch), and the Faranya Agri-Business Centre.

The annual DSS Consultation provides a platform for the Church and stakeholders to assess progress and explore ways to strengthen its role in national social and economic development.
