Lands Minister in Washington for U.S.–Africa Forum on Critical Minerals and Investment Opportunities

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), has arrived in Washington, D.C., ahead of his address at the U.S.–Africa Critical Minerals Forum, where global leaders will deliberate on the continent’s mineral future.

The high-level event, scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, 2025, will take place at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Ghana’s Lands Minister is expected to speak on aligning U.S. policy with Africa’s development goals, de-risking private investment, and other key issues shaping the continent’s extractive sector.

In his address, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah will highlight Ghana’s progress in the minerals sector while calling for increased global support to tackle the growing menace of illegal mining.

The Minister, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, will use the platform to invite investors to take advantage of Ghana’s business-friendly mining environment.

Confirming the purpose of the trip, the Minister’s spokesperson, Mahmud Kabore, said the visit forms part of broader efforts to mobilise international support for the fight against illegal mining and to build partnerships that will accelerate Ghana’s mining development.

Despite its vast mineral wealth, Ghana continues to grapple with the environmental and economic challenges posed by illegal mining. However, the Minister has assured that with a mix of strategic interventions and political will, the problem will be resolved.

As part of this commitment, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat is intensifying operations across the country to clamp down on illegal miners and protect degraded lands.
