Ghana ready to host ADEA Triennale: A showcase for educational excellence

Ghana is gearing up to host the highly anticipated 2025 Triennial on education and training, a flagship programme of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA). The three-day event is scheduled to take place at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra from October 29-31, 2025.
This prestigious gathering will convene 500 education stakeholders, including over 30 ministers of education across Africa and beyond, to interrogate strategies for enhancing foundational learning and leverage technology and data to improve learning outcomes. Other expected stakeholders include UNESCO, the World Bank, the Gates Foundation, Mastercard Foundation, the African Development Bank, FCDO, and many others.
The ADEA Triennale on Education is one of Africa’s premier high-level forums for ministerial dialogue, peer learning, and the exchange of knowledge and impactful experiences in education. It brings together African policymakers, educators, thought leaders, innovators, development partners, researchers, and academia to reflect on critical themes shaping the transformation of education systems for sustainable social and economic development across the continent.
The Triennale seeks to celebrate progress and showcase achievements in building resilient, equitable, inclusive, and relevant education systems across Africa. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on persistent bottlenecks, emerging issues, and opportunities related to foundational learning, skills development, financing, and innovation. It facilitates learning and exchanges between countries and partners, with an emphasis on innovative approaches, leadership, and accountability mechanisms. The event also serves as an avenue to agree on priority actions to accelerate the transformation of Africa’s education and training systems.
A platform for educational innovation
The Triennale provides a unique opportunity for Ghana to showcase its commitment to educational excellence and innovation. The theme for the 2025 Triennale, “Strengthening the resilience of Africa’s educational systems: Advancing towards ending learning poverty by 2035 with a well-educated and skilled workforce for the continent and beyond,” is a wake-up call for African leaders to strengthen teacher development, interrogate strategies for enhancing foundational learning, and explore new ways of reimagining education financing across the continent.
His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, will open the Triennale, and there will be high-level panel discussions and keynote addresses by renowned experts. Breakout sessions will cover various themes, including education financing, foundational learning, and skills development. There will also be exhibition booths showcasing innovative education solutions, and opportunities for networking with education stakeholders, policymakers, and researchers.
Ghana’s preparation
The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with ADEA, has been working tirelessly to ensure a successful conference in Accra. A comprehensive programme featuring keynote speakers and panel discussions has already been outlined.
Ghana’s educational achievements
Ghana has made significant strides driven by government policies and investments. The Free Senior High School policy, for instance, has increased access to education for over three million students. There has also been notable enhancement in teacher professionalism. With continued focus on innovation and inclusivity, Ghana is poised to become a hub for foundational learning and TVET education excellence in Africa.
Expectations
The Triennale is expected to bring together ministers of education across the continent to foster collaboration among education stakeholders, reimagine education financing in Africa, and share best practices in education development to inform policy and evidence-based decision-making. The event promises to be a thought-provoking and inspiring experience.
