The European Union (EU) has urged Ghana to safeguard its long-standing peace and stability, noting that it remains a foundation for deepening cooperation and driving sustainable development.
The call was made by the new European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach, when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, in Accra on Tuesday, October 14.
Mr Skinnebach expressed his commitment to taking the European Union’s support for Ghana to a higher level, citing the country’s potential for growth and development.
“As the new Ambassador to Ghana, I will work to elevate the European Union’s support for Ghana to a higher level. Ghana has enormous potential, and the EU will continue to nurture that potential to promote peace and development across the subregion,” he said.
He further noted that the EU remains keen on partnering with Ghana to create an enabling environment that sustains stability and attracts investment to boost local development.
In response, Mr Mohammed-Mubarak assured the Ambassador of a strong working relationship, pledging the Ministry’s cooperation in advancing mutual interests.
He identified areas for collaboration, including digitisation within the Ghana Prisons Service for effective inmate management and strengthening the National Peace Council’s conflict prevention efforts.
The Minister also commended the immediate past EU Ambassador to Ghana, Irchad Razaaly, for his dedicated service, and expressed appreciation to the European Union for its continued support to Ghana’s development agenda.
He welcomed Ambassador Skinnebach to Ghana and wished him a successful tenure.
