2026 WCQ: ‘We’re used to playing away’ – Benin coach, Rohr warns Nigeria

Gernot Rohr has warned Nigeria that the Benin Republic Cheetahs are used to playing away matches.

He gave the warning while addressing his press conference ahead of their game against Nigeria in Uyo on Tuesday.

Rohr pointed out that his team has played all their matches away from home throughout the qualifiers as CAF could not approve any venue in Benin.

He urged his players to stay composed as the fight for the World Cup ticket ends.

Benin Republic must avoid defeat against Nigeria to book their place in North America automatically as they sit at the summit of Group C with 17 points.

Rohr expressed optimism about the challenge of beating Nigeria at home for the first time ever.

“We go for a win but we know that we have to be patient and we know that Nigeria has only a chance if they win, so I believe it will be a very open match,” Rohr told reporters.

“When you see that we played all the matches away, not one match at home.

“We are used to playing away and to have some finals. We had it also in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“We also had the last game very difficult in Libya under very special circumstances. Nigeria saw how it is there, and we won there in a very bad atmosphere.”

Nigeria must beat Benin Republic to qualify for the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
