Why Gov Mbah defected to APC – Party chieftain, Obiechina

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Enugu State, Dr Alex Chukwuemeka Obiechina, has said the decision of Governor Peter Mbah to leave the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the APC shows that he cares for tomorrow more than today.

He declared that Governor Mbah’s second term was already secured even without him joining the national ruling party.

DAILY POST reports that Governor Peter Mba, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2023, will officially be received into the APC on Tuesday.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, Obiechina, disclosed that Governor Mbah has demonstrated uncommon political courage and sagacity by joining the APC.

He noted that the governor shunned blind opposition politics, adding, “I am personally amazed by the way this young man has brought zeal, excellence, courage and foresightedness into governance and politics of Enugu State.

He said the PDP brought stagnation to the state for the past 26 years through crass impunity, indiscipline and resistance to change.

“Here is a governor whose second term is guaranteed.”

“His decision to join us in the APC shows that he cares about tomorrow more than today,” he said.

Obiechina, who was Enugu State PDP governorship candidate in 2011, reflected on the party’s alleged impunity which robbed him of his candidacy, saying that it was good a thing that the Enugu State governor resolved to leave the decadent opposition party for a brighter future in APC.

“There is no doubt that PDP is reaping from its many political sins, including corruption, bad party politics, impunity and unparalleled political indiscipline. I’m very elated and relieved that the governor of my home state did not waste a minute more in the evil assembly to join APC.

“Apart from denying the South East opportunity to fly the party’s presidential flag in 1999, 2003 and 2023, PDP did not feel any moral compunction to concede to Mbah the right to have a say in the party’s national Working Committee as the only PDP Governor from the zone.

“Now, all the remaining flags of the PDP’s years of indignity in the South East have been swept out of the zone by Mbah decision to bring in the big broom of national progressive politics.”

At the Enugu State Government House on Monday, some of Governor Mbah’s cabinet members declared for APC, waving the party’s flag.

“We are in the APC now, Jagaban all the way, APC from bottom to top,” some of them said in a viral video.

The cabinet members include Dr. Lawrence Ezeh, the Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology and Prince of Mburumbu; Dr. Amaka S. Ngene, the Chairman of the Science, Technical, Vocational Schools Management Board and Dr. Felix Nnamani, the Commissioner for Labour.
