2026 WCQ: South Africa banking on gods — Hugo Broos

The coach of the South African national team, Hugo Broos, has said that he is banking on divine intervention to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Broos’ side must beat Rwanda and hope that Nigeria can defeat Benin in their crucial Group C encounter on Tuesday evening in Uyo.
Bafana Bafana sit second in the group with 15 points, while Benin remain top with 17 points going into the final fixtures.
Speaking during a press conference, Broos urged his players to stay focused.
“We have to focus only on ourselves. Like Ronwen Williams said we can’t change or decide what happened on the other side in Nigeria,” Broos said.
“So if we win we have to wait and see but I think that the things we all want and dream of can happen tomorrow.
“We are ready for it. We are ready to play a good game because whatever you saw about the game in Zimbabwe it wasn’t a bad game from my side.
“We have to support the team and again I am sure that we will be ready tomorrow. And then hoping we can win, we are ready to win the game but we all know that cannot be enough.
“So let’s hope on the other side that the gods are with us and see the results of what everyone hopes in Nigeria and that’s that Benin lose the game.”
Qualification for South Africa would mark their first World Cup appearance since hosting the tournament in 2010.
