Plateau: ‘Despite defections, APC can’t defeat PDP in 2027’ – Former Sen. Mwadkwon declares

The former lawmaker who represented Plateau North senatorial district in the National Assembly, Simon Mwadkwon Fwet, has boasted that despite the massive defection of prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, it will be a herculean task for the APC to defeat the PDP in the 2027 governorship election in Plateau State.
Mwadkwon who was the Senate Minority Leader before his removal by an appeals court ruling, made the declaration while speaking with newsmen in Jos.
He insisted that despite the gale of defections, the PDP is still very strong in the state, and as such, the APC will stand no chance of winning the 2027 governorship election.
Mwadkwon noted that as far as Plateau State is concerned, the PDP remains deeply rooted and has been widely accepted by the people who are happy with the Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration.
The former lawmaker stressed that the dynamics of politics in the state are unique and cannot be influenced by the ruling party at the national level because the performance of the present administration in two years under Gov. Mutfwang has endeared the PDP even more to the people.
Describing Mutfwang’s two years in office as transformational, Mwadkwon said the administration has recorded visible progress across key sectors including agriculture, health, infrastructure, and peace building.
“Jos has witnessed significant improvement in sanitation and road network, making the city cleaner and more attractive than before,” the former lawmaker said.
He added that the government’s agricultural reforms have boosted food production, job creation, and youth empowerment across the state.
“The new road networks for instance can attest to that and you will notice that before now Jos was filled with garbage and the town was literally smelling but all that has been taken care of and our city is looking clean and smarter than before,” Mwadkwon said.
“What the governor has done in the agricultural sector is to have food produced all year round and not seasonally as done in the past. You will also notice that our ‘Plateau Potatoes’ is now produced all year round thereby ramping up the food value chain in the state,” he added.
He further stated that another aspect of Mutfwang’s governance style which has endeared him to Plateau people is his efforts in maintaining in peace and tackling insecurity, noting that Mutfwang’s inclusive approach, devoid of ethnic or religious bias, has promoted harmony and good neighborliness among Plateau citizens.
“I can go on and on but the point is that the governor has virtually touched every sector in the State and I will rate him at over 70 percent level of performance which you know is excellent and we just have to encourage him to do more so that he doesn’t get carried away for me he has done well,” he stated.
While speaking on the 2027 elections, Mwadkwon said the electorates will not be swayed by partisan politics or the influence of the APC at the federal level.
“Though the APC is the ruling party at the national level, I will categorically say that has nothing to do with Plateau and our dynamics is totally different.
“The PDP remains the party to beat in Plateau State and I am confident that the party will retain power in the state and reclaim the presidency in 2027 by the grace of God,” ” he emphasized.
