2027: ‘I’ll never leave SDP until it ceases to exist’ – Adebayo

Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has reaffirmed his commitment to the party, saying he will not join any other political platform except the SDP ceases to exist.
Adebayo, who contested the 2023 presidential election, said he joined the SDP in 1991 at the age of 19 and has remained loyal since then, despite pressures to defect to other parties.
“The only political party I have ever joined in my life is the SDP, and that’s where I will remain unless the party ceases to exist,” he said.
Reacting to claims that the SDP was working for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Adebayo dismissed the rumours, insisting that his politics is entirely within the SDP. He noted that while some individuals in the party may have sympathies elsewhere, such acts are not tolerated.
Adebayo said the SDP is currently undergoing a new phase led by younger politicians committed to reviving its founding ideology rooted in fairness, equity, and justice. He added that the party’s manifesto remains aligned with the constitutional principles of good governance and the rule of law.
Commenting on the state of the nation, Adebayo lamented that corruption, poor governance, and economic mismanagement have continued to cripple Nigeria’s progress. He blamed successive administrations for failing to fulfill promises of development and accountability.
He maintained that the SDP would continue to promote issue-based politics and rebuild public trust through ethical leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
