We want the world to feel our presence – Sports Minister on Ghana’s World Cup ambition

Sports Minister Kofi Adams says Ghana’s qualification drive for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is not just about participation but making a real impact on the global stage.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, the Minister said the Black Stars are determined to replicate the magic of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, when Ghana came within a whisker of a historic semi-final berth.

“I think this time around also, we will not just go to the World Cup to just add to the numbers,” he said.

“We want to go there and let people feel our presence just the same way they did in South Africa in 2010. We want the world should feel our presence.”

His comments come after the Black Stars delivered a commanding performance to move within one point of World Cup qualification.

Ghana thrashed the Central African Republic 5–0 in Morocco, with four of those goals coming in the second half, to maintain their three-point lead at the top of Group I.

The victory rekindled hopes of another World Cup appearance and renewed optimism among fans who have long yearned for a return to the team’s glory days.

Kofi Adams emphasised that the ambition this time is to make a statement at the global tournament, reflecting a shift in mindset and purpose for the national team.
