Private Security Guard Association of Ghana meets sector ministers

The leadership of the Private Security Guard Association of Ghana (PSGAG) has held a meeting with the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, to discuss security-related issues, especially challenges affecting the private security sector in the country.
The meeting focused on challenges confronting private security guards, including scanty salaries, long working hours, lack of insurance packages, limited opportunities for promotion, and inadequate training, among others.
The Minister acknowledged that he was aware of these challenges, describing them as unacceptable practices. He stated that his ministry would not tolerate any form of unfair treatment by security companies towards their employees.
He further admitted that the salaries paid to most private security guards are inadequate, and there are no additional incentives despite their working twelve hours a day. The Minister commended the leadership of the association for taking proactive steps in seeking solutions.
The Minister also appreciated the crucial role played by private security guards in safeguarding lives and property in the country, noting that their hard work is unprecedented. He assured the association of his commitment to addressing their concerns amicably.
Earlier this year, on April 14, the leadership of the association met with the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr Rashid Pelpuo, on similar issues. The Minister pledged to engage with the Association of Private Security Organisations of Ghana (APSOG) and promised to take swift action—beginning with addressing the issue of scanty salaries—to ensure fair pay for private security personnel.
The Private Security Guard Association of Ghana expressed appreciation to both ministers for their willingness to support the private security sector. The leadership of the association called on members to remain calm and focused while discussions continue, assuring them that the association will exercise its mandate and work to achieve its aims.
