Lagos govt seals Nordic Hotel over wastewater pollution, poor sanitation

The Lagos State Government has sealed the Nordic Hotel located on Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, over alleged environmental violations, including improper waste disposal and poor sanitary conditions.

The enforcement was carried out by officials of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, LSWMO, following multiple public complaints about the hotel’s alleged unhygienic practices.

According to findings, the hotel was reportedly discharging untreated wastewater directly into the drainage system, causing foul odours and contributing to environmental pollution in the area.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the action in a statement released on Thursday.

Wahab said the sealing of the facility was part of the state government’s commitment to maintaining a cleaner and safer environment, describing the hotel’s conduct as a “clear breach of environmental laws.”

“Following public complaints and in pursuit of a safer, more sustainable and cleaner Lagos, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office on Thursday, October 9, 2025, sealed the Nordic Hotel for deliberately discharging untreated wastewater into the drainage system, causing offensive odour, public nuisance and posing health risks,” Wahab stated.

He also urged residents and business owners to adopt proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to safeguard public health and support environmental sustainability across the state.
