The Minister for the Interior and responsible for National Security, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has commissioned the Eastern Regional Command of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) in Koforidua as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s national security architecture and enhance public safety.
The new command centre, equipped with advanced surveillance and intelligence-gathering technology, is expected to boost real-time security monitoring and support the government’s 24-hour economy policy.
In his keynote address, Mr Mohammed-Mubarak highlighted the importance of the facility in advancing Ghana’s national security capabilities, noting that it marks a major milestone in the government’s commitment to leveraging technology in crime prevention.
“This facility enables us to lawfully intercept and analyse digital communications, allowing proactive prevention of crimes such as kidnapping, fraud, and armed robbery,” he said.
“It will also significantly enhance the Bureau’s ability to gather, process, and share intelligence to support other security and law enforcement agencies.”
The Minister added that the command would improve inter-agency coordination with the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and other intelligence units to ensure swift and informed responses to emerging threats.
Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, expressed gratitude for the establishment of the facility, describing it as a timely intervention for a region grappling with illegal mining, drug trafficking, and armed robbery.
She pledged the region’s full support to ensure the NSB operates effectively in safeguarding communities.
The National Security Coordinator, COP Abdul-Osman Razak, commended the staff of the NSB and urged them to uphold professionalism and integrity in their work.
He stated that security remains a shared responsibility requiring collaboration from all stakeholders.
The new regional command forms part of the government’s broader strategy to modernise national security infrastructure, improve intelligence operations, and safeguard the peace and stability of the country.
