Abia House of Assembly pocketed by executive arm – Ex-Minority Leader alleges


The former Minority Leader of Abia State House of Assembly, Chijioke Chukwu, has alleged that the present state parliament has failed to carry out checks and balances on the Governor Alex Otti-led executive arm

Chukwu who was reacting to the Speaker’s high rating of Otti’s performance, said it was regrettable that an independent arm of government led by Emmanuel Emeruwa could be hobnobbing with the executive.

Chukwu, who represented Bende North in the 7th Abia State House of Assembly, stressed that the actions of the current lawmakers could affect the progress of the state.

“It is unfortunate that the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly who could not muster courage to challenge some of the activities of the executive, had the temerity to say that the Deputy Speaker (of the House of Representatives) is no match to Governor Otti,” Chukwu said.

Chukwu, who is currently a member of the North West Development Commission representing South -East, claimed that the present Assembly is taking advantage of Abia people to allow the mismanagement of Abia resources.

“Abia State House of Assembly used to be a fire brand which had always checked the activities of the executive with its through scrutiny of government policies and activities.”

Abia Assembly Speaker, Emmanuel Emeruwa, had during a press conference, declared that Deputy speaker of House of representatives Benjamin Kalu is no match to Governor Otti, adding that Otti has developed the state, especially his Aba constituency.
