One beheaded, several houses destroyed in Asemko after chieftaincy clash

A violent chieftaincy clash between the communities of Asemko and Butre in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region has left one person beheaded and nearly 80 per cent of houses in Asemko burnt.

The unrest reportedly stems from a long-standing dispute over traditional leadership, which reignited after residents of Asemko attempted to install their own chief.

The situation quickly escalated into chaos, leaving widespread destruction and fear in its wake.

As of now, Asemko lies deserted, with residents fleeing to nearby communities for safety. Schools have closed, and normal economic and social activities have come to a standstill.

Local authorities and security personnel are yet to restore calm to the area as investigations continue into the violent clash.
