FIC calls for multi-stakeholder collaboration to tackle cybersecurity threats

The Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), Albert Kojo Twum Boafo, has underscored the need for coordinated multi-stakeholder collaboration to effectively combat the growing threats of cybersecurity in the country.

He called on government agencies, the private sector, civil society, and international partners to work together strategically to protect the nation’s digital infrastructure, arguing that the nature of the crime is beyond individual efforts.

“The very nature of this crime, cutting across sectors, jurisdictions and regulatory boundaries demands a coordinated multi-stakeholder response,” said on his behalf by a representative from FIC at a cybersecurity awareness programme held in Accra on Wednesday, October 8.

He emphasised that cyber criminals are becoming increasingly adaptive, making it imperative for stakeholders to unite and form a strong, coordinated front.

“Criminals have proven themselves to be adaptive, sophisticated and increasingly transnational in their operations and that brings the essence of collaborations,” he said.

Adding that “The theme of today’s programme emphasises collaboration. No single institution, no matter how capable or well resourced can effectively combat cyber enabled financial crimes in isolation.”

The event, held under the theme “Securing the Digital Frontier: Collaboration Against Cyber-Enabled Financial Crime”, forms part of Ghana’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month activities for October.

Mr Twum Boafo stressed that only through joint efforts can the country build the resilience needed to address the evolving nature of cyber threats and safeguard the financial ecosystem.
