The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled by-elections across the country for Tuesday, November 11, 2025, to fill vacant Electoral Areas and Units resulting from the deaths or resignations of some assembly and unit committee members.
According to the EC, the elections will be conducted in accordance with the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended by Act 940.
In a statement issued in Accra on Monday and copied to the Ghanaian Times, the EC Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, announced that interested candidates for the vacant positions may obtain nomination forms free of charge at any EC District Office or download them from the Commission’s website from Monday, October 6 to Thursday, October 16, 2025, between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. daily.
The statement further noted that completed nomination forms must be submitted in quadruplicate by the candidate personally, or by the proposer or seconder, along with two copies of a recent bust-sized photograph taken against a red background.
It added that the completed nomination forms and photographs must be delivered to the Returning Officer of the Electoral Area where the candidate intends to contest, between Monday, October 13 and Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The EC explained that nomination forms for the vacant Electoral Area positions must be endorsed by the proposer and seconder of the candidate, with the support of 18 other registered voters who are residents of the Electoral Area.
Similarly, for Unit Committee positions, the forms must be endorsed by the proposer and seconder, together with eight additional registered voters residing in the Electoral Area.
“All enquiries related to these elections should be addressed to the relevant Returning Officer at the District Office of the Commission in the affected areas,” the statement concluded.
