Wife who burnt soldier husband alive arrested

A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has reportedly died from severe burns after his wife allegedly set him on fire during a domestic altercation at the Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area (LGA) of Akwa Ibom State.
The tragic incident occurred on September 22, 2025, according to reports from military sources.
Lieutenant Haruna, who was also a medical doctor serving as the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) with the 6 Battalion, was said to have engaged in a heated argument with his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna, which turned violent.

A source familiar with the incident revealed that during the altercation, the woman allegedly doused her husband with petrol and set him ablaze inside their residence at the barracks.
“The officer sustained severe burns and was immediately stabilised at the Military Reference Section (MRS) in the barracks before being evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for further treatment,” the source said.
Despite extensive medical efforts to save his life, Lieutenant Haruna succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
Security officials have since arrested the suspect, who is currently in custody, while an investigation into the circumstances leading to the officer’s death has been launched.
