The leadership of the Private Security Guard Association of Ghana (PSGAG) held a meeting with the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed, on 2nd October 2025 to discuss key issues affecting the private security sector in the country.
The meeting focused on challenges confronting private security guards, including low salaries, long working hours, lack of insurance coverage, limited opportunities for promotion, and inadequate training.
The Minister acknowledged that he was aware of these challenges, describing them as unacceptable practices. He stated that his ministry would not tolerate any form of unfair treatment by security companies towards their employees.
He further admitted that the salaries paid to most private security guards were inadequate, despite the long hours they work—often up to twelve hours a day—with no additional incentives.
The Private Security Guard Association appealed to the Minister to help establish proper conditions of service to improve the welfare of private security personnel across the country.
Hon. Muntaka Mohammed commended the leadership of the Association for their proactive steps in seeking solutions and praised the crucial role private security guards play in safeguarding lives and property. He assured them of his commitment to addressing their concerns amicably.
Earlier this year, on 14th April, the Association also met with the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr Rashid Pelpuo, to discuss similar issues. Dr Pelpuo pledged to engage the Association of Private Security Organisations of Ghana (APSOG) and to take swift action—beginning with the issue of low salaries—to ensure fair pay for private security personnel.
The Private Security Guard Association of Ghana expressed appreciation to both ministers for their willingness to support the sector and called on members to remain calm and focused as discussions continue.
The Association also extended its gratitude to APSOG for creating employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth and appealed to individuals, institutions, and NGOs to support efforts to rebrand and elevate the image of private security work in Ghana.
