PRESEC–Legon wins 6th edition of Energy Commission’s Renewable Energy competition

Students of Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC–Legon) have emerged winners of the 6th edition of the Energy Commission’s Renewable Energy Competition, showcasing an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) system designed to provide primary healthcare services to patients.

The innovation seeks to reduce pressure on medical professionals in health facilities and bridge the gap in communities with limited access to healthcare services.

The AI-powered machine can scan patients to detect ailments and, in other instances, conduct live interactive sessions to collect patient details and make preliminary diagnoses.

For their outstanding performance, the team from PRESEC–Legon received a total cash prize of GH¢220,000, along with several souvenirs from the organisers and partners.

The Energy Commission’s competition aims to encourage creativity and promote sustainable technological solutions among young people, with a focus on renewable energy and related innovations.

Damongo SHS placed sixth, followed by Adidome SHS in fifth position, Dabokpa Technical Institute in fourth, Ola Girls’ SHS–Kenyasi in third, and Ahantaman Girls’ SHS taking second place.
