He can’t travel abroad, passport seized, and he is to report twice a month- all you need to know about Chairman Wontumi’s case

Across social media platforms, Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi, aka “I will change NDC’s position on the ballot paper” , is trending.
In videos and pictures that have flown across social media platforms, the politician was rearrested earlier today, October 7, 2025.
According to reports gathered by Gh Page, Chairman Wontumi’s arrest is linked to his involvement in illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as “Galamsey.”
Following his rearrest, Chairman Wontumi was taken to the criminal court at the Accra High Court, where the charges leveled against him were to be filed, even though, six charges had already been leveled against him.
According to sources, following his rearrest, Chairman Wontumi was granted a 15 million Cedis bail with 3 surerites by the Accra High Court.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman is being made to deposit his passport, a clear indication that he cannot travel abroad until his case is solved, and, he is to report to investigators twice every month.
