EFCC arraigns accountant for allegedly stealing N200m from employer in Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, on Monday arraigned an accountant, Oguibe Promise Nkwachukwu, and his company, Wifamapp Royalty Global Limited, before Justice R.A. Oshodi of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, over allegations of stealing N200 million belonging to Travelstar Web Logistics Limited.

Nkwachukwu, who previously served as the firm’s accountant, is facing a 13-count charge bordering on stealing, in violation of Sections 280(1)(b), (2)(f), and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

According to the EFCC, the defendant, acting as the alter ego of Wifamapp Royalty Global Limited, allegedly converted $36,000 entrusted to him by Travelstar Web Logistics Limited for his personal use.

Another count accuses him of dishonestly diverting an additional $156,000 from the company’s funds.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges when they were read to him in court.

Prosecuting counsel, A.A. Usman, requested the court to fix a trial date and sought the defendant’s remand at a correctional centre pending trial.

However, defence counsel, Kelvin C. Uzozie, informed the court of a pending bail application and urged that his client be kept in EFCC custody instead of a correctional facility.

After listening to both parties, Justice Oshodi adjourned the case to October 17, 2025, for the hearing of the bail application.

The judge also ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.
