Clean Energy Competition: OLA Girls’ SHS wins 3rd place with Smart Farm Protection innovation


OLA Girls’ Senior High School, Kenyasi, has secured third place in the 6th edition of the Energy Commission’s Renewable Energy Competition.
The school won items worth GH¢100,000 and a cash prize of Gh¢75,000 among several gifts for their remarkable innovation.
The team developed a smart system designed to detect and repel pests—particularly birds—on rice farms.
The technology uses robotics and sensors to identify the presence of birds and then triggers a loud alarm to scare them away.

The innovation aims to make rice farming less labour-intensive, improve crop quality, and promote environmentally friendly farming practices.
By reducing pest destruction, the system is expected to boost productivity and make farming more attractive to the youth.
