The Akuapem Krontihene, Osahene Boafo Ansah III, has assured the general public, especially Okuapemam of a peaceful Odwira festivities this month.
According to him, the Akuapem Traditional Council is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that this year’s festival becomes one of the best Odwira ever celebrated on Akuapem land.
In view of that, he said the overlord of the Traditional Council, Oswadeewo Kwasi Akuffo III has extended a formal invitation to the King of Gonjoland, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Saole I, to be the Special Guest of Honour.
The Krontihene said one of the purposes of the invitation of the Yagbonwura is to strengthen the relationship to preserve the two kingdoms heritage.
Narrating a short history between the Akuapems and the Gonjas, Osahene Boafo said: “we have a common traditional values, a common goal and a common cultural heritage to preserve for posterity.”
He therefore announced that the theme for the Odwira festival is “Preserving our Culture Securing our Future,” adding that it is special because it is 199th Odwira festival since the inception of Okuapemam.
Osahene Boafo said about 15 out of the 17 towns that form Okuapemam are all Guans and since the Gonjas are also Guans they would get the opportunity to interact and socialise.
“The invitation of the Yagbonwura to grace this year’s Annual Odwira festival is a unique and symbolic of deep cultural and historical ties between the two kingdoms,” he stressed.
He said due to the uniqueness of the festival, the Traditional Council has decided to celebrate it in two weeks starting from October 20 to November 22025 with the grand durbar being October 24, 2025.
Osahene Boafo Ansah appealed to the public especially the natives of Akuapem in Ghana and those in the diaspora to come in their numbers to learn their history and observe their heritage
