Twenty-four hours after a popular clergy in Ondo State, Samson Oluwamodede, called out Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the deplorable state of the ‘death trap’ Oke-Aro/Idanre road in Akure, the state capital, the road has received a temporary face lift pending its completion.
While describing the development as welcoming, some residents of the state faulted the governor for waiting until the Prophet raised an alarm over the situation before the needful could be done.
Oluwamodede, who is the General Overseer of Prayer Centre of God Worldwide, had in a viral video in the state vowed to fix the road if Aiyedatiwa failed to intervene, particularly because lives have been lost in the area daily.
The prophet equally maintained that some roads in the state, particularly within the Akure metropolis, are also in terrible states.
According to a civil servant, Bosun Adubiaro, who is living in the Adofure axis of the state, Aiyedatiwa should be more responsive to the yearnings and cries of the people he is governing.
“The docility of the Aiyedatiwa administration is getting worrisome day by day. We have been raising our voices over the state of this particular road, but our cries were met with silence.
“What I think is happening is probably that he is not listening to those around him, or his aides are not telling him anything or the truth. Yes, the road has been awarded, but are we going to wait until when they finish constructing it? The agony they face cannot be described.
“Just as the man of God stated, people die every day due to its bad state. It took Prophet Samson Oluwamodede to speak before something could be done.
“I think the aides of Aiyedatiwa, who initially attacked and dragged the man of God, should bury their heads in shame. While they were still calling the man names and abusing him, their principal ordered that the road should be temporarily fixed.”
For another resident of the area, Tolani Olarewaju, a trader at Afunbiowo Estate, who took a swipe at the Senior Special Assistant to Aiyedatiwa on Strategic Communication, Allen Sowore, over his position on those who pleaded with the governor over the road, stated that the attitude exudes sycophancy.
She said, “Those around Aiyedatiwa have this irritating mindset that no one must complain about anything, particularly when it involves the governor.
“Even Allen Sowore, the younger brother of Omoyele Sowore, who is notorious for criticising the government, wants us to shut up, which is not possible.
Sowore, in a reaction described as disheartening, addressed the torrents of criticism trailing the state of the road, stressing that Rome was not built in a day.
