A coalition of Muslim-majority nations backing U.S. President Donald Trump’s new Gaza peace proposal has lauded Hamas’s response to the plan, describing it as a “positive and constructive step” toward ending the ongoing conflict.
In a joint statement issued Sunday, the foreign ministers of Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt praised Hamas for showing “readiness” to meet key conditions outlined in Trump’s proposal, which seeks a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a roadmap for Gaza’s postwar governance.
The statement read: “We welcome the steps taken by Hamas regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the war on Gaza, release all hostages, alive or deceased, and immediately begin negotiations on implementation mechanisms.”
Hamas confirmed over the weekend that it had delivered its formal response to the U.S. plan, signaling acceptance of some elements while calling for further discussions on unresolved issues.
The group maintained that additional guarantees would be necessary before a full agreement could be reached.
The ministers also expressed support for Trump’s call for Israel to halt its bombardment of Gaza, urging both parties to commit to a sustainable truce.
“The Foreign Ministers also welcomed Hamas’s announcement of its readiness to hand over the administration of Gaza to a transitional Palestinian Administrative Committee composed of independent technocrats,” the statement added.
The eight-nation bloc stated that any final accord must ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, prevent the displacement of Palestinians, and safeguard civilians on all sides.
They also backed a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the return of the Palestinian Authority (PA) to oversee governance, and the reunification of Gaza and the West Bank.
The ministers further pointed out their commitment to a “just and lasting peace” based on the two-state solution, coupled with an international framework for Gaza’s reconstruction and long-term stability.
Trump’s proposal, his most ambitious Middle East initiative since returning to office, has drawn cautious optimism from Arab states, even as skepticism remains in Israel, where some officials fear it could pressure the government into making concessions to Hamas.
Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days as Washington pushes for an agreement that could bring an end to months of devastating conflict in the region.
