Infrastructure must rise above politics – Kennedy Osei Nyarko

Ranking Member on Parliament’s Roads and Transport Committee, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has called for continuity in Ghana’s road infrastructure projects, stressing that development must rise above partisan politics.

In a statement on the Kumasi Inner Ring Road Improvement Project, the MP commended the current government for proceeding with the project started under the previous administration.

“The decision to follow through is commendable and demonstrates the value of sustaining initiatives that bring long-term benefits to our people,” he said.

He emphasised that what matters most to the people of Kumasi and the Ashanti Region is not political credit but results.

“For the people of Kumasi and the Ashanti Region, what matters most is continuity, delivery, and the improvement of lives through better infrastructure,” he noted.

Dr Osei Nyarko, however, clarified that the project was not new, stating that preparatory works began as far back as March 2024 under the NPP government.

“Detailed technical assessments, project scoping, and discussions on financing were all completed before the change of administration,” he explained.

He further noted that the project forms part of a broader plan to fully dualise the Kumasi Inner Ring Road.

“The Southern Bypass is to be dualised with grant support from the Government of Japan, and the Western Bypass addressed under the Sunyani Road Phase 2 project,” the statement said.

The MP urged the current administration to sustain all critical road infrastructure projects initiated by the NPP.

“It is our hope that the current government will continue to sustain and complete all the critical road infrastructure projects inherited from the NPP government, including the Suame Interchange, Sunyani Road Phase 2, and the Konongo Bypass,” he added.

Kennedy Osei Nyarko said the Kumasi Inner Ring Road Project shows how governments, regardless of political colour, can ensure that well-designed initiatives are completed for the good of the people.

“This project is an excellent example of how government, irrespective of political party, must ensure that well-designed initiatives are seen through to completion,” he stressed.
