EPL: ‘That’s the missing link’ – Glenn Hoddle pinpoints why Arsenal won’t win title

Former Premier League manager, Glenn Hoddle, has pinpointed why Arsenal could miss out on the title again this season despite having ‘all the equipment’ to win it.

Hoddle believes the Gunners still lack a reliable no9 which could still be the missing link.

None of Arsenal’s two goals came from the boots of their multi-million pound signing, Viktor Gyokeres, when they beat London rivals, West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.

It was Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka who scored for the north London side.

Arsenal now sit one point above Liverpool in the Premier League following the Reds’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Arsenal have been widely described as the strongest team, not just in the Premier League but also in Europe this season after they brought in the likes of Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke and Martin Zubimendi in the summer transfer window.

Their failure to win trophies in the past was blamed on lack of a reliable centre forward in the team but the Gunners signed Gyokeres from Sporting CP to solve that particular issue.

But despite this, former England manager, Hoddle believes there are still doubts over whether the striker can deliver.

“He [Arteta] has got the equipment to win the league, there is no doubt about it,” Hoddle told Premier League Productions.

“They have got good defenders, they can defend as a team and they have offensive players and creators too.

“The only missing link at the moment is a no9 that is going to put the ball in the back of the net, time and time again.

“Gyokeres might end up like that, I don’t know, I think that is the only question mark there.”

Gyokeres was largely anonymous in the game at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday as he extended a run of five games without a goal.
