MoE rolls out AI apps for senior high schools


The Ministry of Education (MoE) has introduced Subject-Spe­cific Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications for Senior High Schools (SHS) across the country to enhance delivery of the new SHS curric­ulum while safeguarding Ghana’s ethical and cultural values.

The initiative, expected to support over 68,000 teachers in delivering lessons to more than 1.4 million learners, is the result of collaboration between the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).

Other collaborating partners are the National Teaching Coun­cil (NTC), the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS) and Playlab AI, with support from Transforming Teaching, Education and Learn­ing (T-TEL) and the Mastercard Foundation.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Ms Munira Karim, Head of Public Relations at the Ministry, said the apps would as­sist teachers in planning lessons and developing assessments more efficiently in line with national standards.

It explained that the GES would introduce the tools through weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) sessions in all 712 SHSs.

These sessions, the statement said, would allow teachers to test the applications, collaborate and share feedback, ensuring that AI supported rather than replaced teacher expertise.

It also noted that the Ministry, through NaCCA, had outlined a four-stage testing process to guarantee effectiveness.

This it said comprised a Technical Accuracy Review (TAR) to check alignment with curriculum content; an Educa­tional Quality Review (EQR) to assess pedagogical soundness; a User Experience Review (UER) to test functionality in pilot schools; and Regional Testing to determine readiness for nation­wide roll-out.

According to the statement, the initiative represented a major step forward in leveraging tech­nology to improve teaching and learning outcomes while main­taining the integrity of Ghana’s education system.

It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the integration of AI in education remains locally driven, ethically ground­ed, and focused on empowering teachers to improve learning outcomes
