Why I couldn’t take decisions to fix PDP before joining ADC – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has disclosed why he could not take some firm decisions to “fix” the crisis that riddled the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Atiku said he could not take firm decisions to fix the PDP because he was not the party’s National Chairman or the National Secretary.

In an interview with BBC Hausa Service Wednesday, the former VP said the National Chairman and the Secretary of PDP don’t listen to him, hence he was handicapped in fixing the party.

PDP’s crisis started in 2022 during the build-up to the 2023 presidential election.

The former ruling party had zoned its presidential ticket to the North with its National Chairman from the same region.

This led to Atiku’s emergency as the PDP’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

The party had initially zoned its presidential ticket to the North and Atiku’s emergency irked some chieftains of the party.

The lingering crisis led to Atiku and other members of the party moving to the opposition coalition African Democratic Congress, ADC.

However, Atiku accused the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government of sponsoring some people to destroy the PDP.

“I could have taken some firm decisions to fix the party if I was the chairman or secretary of the party or someone that listens to me was the chairman or secretary.

“Sadly, the people occupying those positions have different interests that are mostly personal to them,” he said.
