UCL: ‘It baffles me’ – McManaman slams Hansi Flick over decision in Barça’s 2-1 defeat to PSG

Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City star, Steve McManaman has said he was baffled by Hansi Flick’s tactics that led to Barcelona’s 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in Spain in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

He warned that the Catalan could be far from winning the competition with such football style.

Barcelona were beaten by title holders, PSG, on Wednesday night with goals from Senny Mayulu cancelling out Ferran Torres’s opener and Goncalo Ramos’ decisive strike.

Hansi Flick’s incredibly high line late on has been blamed for the defeat as PSG capitalised on it to snatch their winner.

PSG went into the game without several key players, including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Marquinhos and Ousmane Dembele.

McManaman said that Barça’s defeat was ‘self-inflicted’.

“It’s self-inflicted from Barcelona,” he said on TNT Sports.

“Why on earth in the last minute of normal time are you playing that high on the halfway line? It baffles me.

“If they don’t sort this out they won’t win this competition because you cannot play like this. It’s an awful goal to concede at any level.

“It’s so late on in the game and they’re taking those chances. Look how high they are, look at the disorganisation.”

Inter Milan beat Barcelona to send them out of the Champions League in the semi-finals last season.
