Hamas expected to give positive response to US Gaza peace plan – Sources

Hamas is expected to respond positively, though with requested amendments, to the US-proposed plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza, sources familiar with the ongoing negotiations say.
Arab mediators have been engaged in productive discussions with the Palestinian group, and a formal response could come as soon as Thursday, October 2, 2025, according to a source speaking to reporters.
Recall that US President Donald Trump has indicated that Hamas has “three or four days” to reply to the plan, warning that there is limited room for further negotiations.
The source noted that Hamas’s anticipated response will likely accept the proposal in principle but request adjustments on key points, similar to the changes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secured in the days prior to the plan’s public release.
Qatar, a key mediator in the negotiations, has reportedly been in contact with the US to advocate for modifications to the plan.
An Arab diplomat from one of the mediating countries said earlier this week that Egypt and Qatar expressed concern over last-minute US concessions to Israel, particularly regarding the pace of Israeli troop withdrawal and the disarmament of Hamas, which the group has consistently treated as a “red line”.
The US plan proposes an immediate ceasefire, the release of Israeli hostages within 72 hours in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, the disarmament of Hamas, and a gradual Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Hamas’s response, expected today, could signal a significant step toward a potential resolution to the ongoing conflict.
