DStv subscribers to enjoy up to 50 % more value — Sam George

SUBSCRIBERS of DStv in Ghana would from yesterday, enjoy between 33 to 50 per cent more value on their existing packages, depending on their bouquet, following a new value offering agreed upon by MultiChoice Africa and Ghana and the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations.
The enhanced value initiative comes after extensive stakeholder consultations aimed at reviewing the pricing structure of DStv services in Ghana, in response to calls for price relief amidst an improving macroeconomic environment.
Announcing the new offer at a press conference in Accra on Monday, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, stated that the move was an outcome of negotiations between government and MultiChoice.
“This increased-value offer addresses government’s concerns, reduces pressure on Ghanaian households, while ensuring the sustainability of the DStv service in Ghana,” the Minister noted, adding that, “effectively, MultiChoice has offered value over and above what we requested of them following extensive engagement.”
According to the new structure, the Minister said customers would gain access to higher-tier bouquets at the price of lower-tier ones.
For instance, Mr George said subscribers on the Padi bouquet paying GH¢ 59 would now access content on the Access bouquet valued at GH¢99, a 40 per cent cost saving.
Similarly, Access subscribers would now enjoy Family bouquet content worth GH¢190, saving 48 per cent, while Family bouquet customers will receive Compact bouquet programming worth GH¢380, including live football matches, reflecting a 50 per cent increase in value.
The Premium bouquet, priced at GH¢865, he said retained full access to DStv’s flagship content, and subscribers will also gain automatic entry into a draw to win fully paid trips to watch selected English Premier League matches, subject to terms and conditions.
“There is no restriction on a subscriber’s choice of a bouquet,” the Minister stressed.
In addition to the increased value, Mr George said MultiChoice would also subsidise the Zapper decoder and dish kit by GH¢555, effectively offering the hardware to new customers at half the current price and that was expected to make DStv more accessible to new users.
The Minister said the stakeholder committee focused on addressing the long-standing issue of cross-border piracy of DStv decoders and services from Nigeria into Ghana.
The Committee, he said recommended the formation of a dedicated Working Group with representation from the Ministry, NCA, Cyber Security Authority, Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Police Service, and others to tackle the issue comprehensively.
Mr George assured the public of the government’s commitment to protecting consumer interests, saying, “Fellow Ghanaians, the message today is simple: the Government of John Dramani Mahama is on your side and MultiChoice is a responsive business.”
H said a three-month evaluation period has been instituted, after which the Committee would reconvene to assess the impact of the initiative.
