Russia expects Trump’s Gaza plan to facilitate Palestinian state

Russia wants the new 20-point Gaza peace plan developed by United States President Donald Trump to facilitate the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova recalled Russia’s consistent advocacy for an immediate ceasefire and an end to bloodshed in Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that he accepted the proposal on Monday during his meeting with President Trump at the White House.
Zakharova said a successful and smooth implementation of the new plan should pave the way for the resumption of a constructive dialogue between the Israeli and Palestinian sides.
She said the settlement of disputed issues should be based on the recognised international legal framework, “which provides for the creation of an independent Palestinian state that will live in peace and security with Israel.”
According to Zakharova, the Palestinian National Authority’s readiness to cooperate with partners to shape a comprehensive peace agreement was a positive development.
She said any measures and initiatives aimed at a truce should be supported, expressing hope that a ceasefire would become sustainable and “lead to lasting stabilisation in the Palestinian enclave.”
Russia urged stakeholders to focus on the necessary conditions for peace to ensure that all efforts result in the rebuilding of infrastructure, “which has been almost completely destroyed.”
The new plan includes lifting the blockade to allow free access for humanitarian aid, the release of hostages and prisoners on both sides, the demilitarisation of Hamas, and the establishment of technocratic governance, among other measures.
On Monday, President Recep Erdogan declared his support for Trump’s initiative, assuring that Turkey would continue to contribute to the process to achieve “a just and lasting peace acceptable to all parties.”
