Shia National Imam Lauds Govt, slams Minority over Gaza crisis

The Office of the National Imam of the Shia Muslim Community in Ghana has noted with concern the statement by the Minority in Parliament on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, condemning the remarks of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
The Minority’s invocation of non-alignment is misplaced. Non-alignment does not mean silence in the face of an organised, systematic massacre of women and children by the apartheid Zionist regime.
To remain mute is not neutrality, but cowardice—a betrayal of the values passed down by our forebears.
Ghana’s proud tradition is to promote peace while firmly opposing war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity.
As a signatory to the Rome Statute establishing the International Criminal Court (ICC), Ghana cannot ignore the ICC’s arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and former Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, over crimes in Gaza.
Moreover, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry reported on September 16, 2025, that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza and called for an immediate end to the atrocities.
South Africa has also taken a principled stand by filing a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice for using women and children as military targets.
The Minority’s statement, led by Samuel Abu Jinapor, risks undermining the New Patriotic Party’s support in Zongo communities during future elections.
We are convinced that the Foreign Minister’s principled stance strengthens Ghana’s international reputation.
We, therefore, commend President John Dramani Mahama and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for courageously speaking against the genocidal crimes of the Zionist regime.
