Fire guts girls’ hostel at Zuarungu Nursing College

A fire outbreak at the girls’ hostel of the Zuarungu Nursing and Midwifery Training College on Monday, September 29, caused significant damage to student property.

According to a statement published on the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Facebook page, firefighters received a distress call at 12:14 pm regarding the incident.

Two fire appliances, one each from the Zuarungu and Bolgatanga fire stations, responded swiftly and arrived on the scene within three minutes to find the fire already well-developed.

Firefighters worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control by 1:20 pm, with full extinguishment achieved by 2:08 pm. The timely intervention helped limit the destruction.

“Five rooms and students’ belongings were lost, but six others were salvaged, limiting the damage,” the statement noted.

The Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer II Sagoe, visited the scene to assess the damage and offered assurances to school authorities.

He pledged that the GNFS would conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and implement preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but the GNFS has urged the public particularly in school environments to adhere strictly to fire safety protocols.
