EPL: Why we lost 2-1 to Arsenal – Newcastle manager Eddie Howe

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted his team were not at their best as they lost 2-1 to Arsenal on Sunday.
Nick Woltemade gave the Magpies the lead with a fine header in the first half at St James’ Park.
Although the hosts scored against the run of play, the Gunners fought back to take all three points in the second half.
Substitute Mikel Merino and Gabriel Magalhães scored as Arsenal moved into second place, two points behind leaders Liverpool.
Howe accepted Newcastle were not at their best on the day, despite some excellent saves from goalkeeper Nick Pope.
“I don’t think we were at our best today, being honest. Arsenal played very well,” Howe said.
“We had our chances in the game and we took the lead and we were desperate to try and hang on to that lead.
“Nick [Pope] made some good saves for us, but it wasn’t to be, and we conceded set-pieces at the end. It was so disappointing.”
