Declaring state of emergency on galamsey is a heavy decision – Veep’s Economic Adviser

As calls intensify for the President to declare a state of emergency to address illegal mining, an Economic Adviser to the Vice President, Professor Sharif Mahmud Khalid, has cautioned that such a move is a “heavy decision” that requires careful consideration.

Mr Mohammed’s remarks come amid a growing national debate, with many Ghanaians urging the government to adopt drastic interventions to curb the environmental and economic damage caused by illegal mining.
