Russia sanctions British officials, experts for ‘subversion’

The Russian government has imposed sanctions on officials and experts in the United Kingdom in response to London’s continued hostile stance.
In a statement on Friday, the Foreign Ministry accused the individuals of advocating tougher punishments for Russia and engaging in “subversive activities.”
The Kremlin said their actions included liaison with “destructive” British analytical and consulting agencies, fabricating “anti-Russia materials and the spreading of pseudo-expert reviews.”
According to Moscow, the authorities in London are clinging to the belief that they can cause strategic damage to Russia “with the help of the Kiev regime it controls.”
The statement noted that London’s funding of “cynical anti-Russia campaigns” was accelerating the decline of its socio-economic and internal political situation.
Russia said Britain’s efforts to discredit and isolate it, including in the context of the military operation in Ukraine, would be met with a strong response.
The affected nationals are Anna Deibel-Jung, Deputy Director, Office of Trade Sanctions Implementation; James Byrne, Co-founder and CEO of research institute Open Source Centre; David Michael Doogan, House of Commons Member – Scottish National Party.
Kinga Redlowska, Head, Centre for Finance and Security; Max Petrokofsky, Head, Sectoral Sanctions (Trade) at the FCDO; Gonsalo Saiz Erasquin, Research Fellow, Centre for Finance and Security; Emma Elizabeth Reynolds, Secretary, Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
The Russian sanctions list also includes a number of representatives of the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation within HM Treasury.
