Abiola, Yar’Adua’ll be turning in their graves over Tinubu’s dictatorship – Atiku’s aide

Paul Ibe, media aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, says MKO Abiola, Shehu Yar’Adua and other late Nigerian activists would be trembling in their graves over President Bola Tinubu’s ‘dictatorship’.

Ibe made the claim in an interview on The African Settings Exchange Show.

“This democracy that we are practicing since 1999, was bought, it was purchased, so to say, at a very high price, you know, to human rights.

“Chief MKO Abiola, Major General, Shehu Yar’Adua, Abiola’s wife, lots of children, activists were all killed in that process.

“And so, you know, we paid a heavy price and I believe that all of those who had passed away, who sacrificed their lives for what we are enjoying in terms of democratic rule, they would tremble in their graveyards seeing what is playing out.

“What is playing out is a dictatorship and that is exactly why people like Sowore and so many others are being haunted, they are being harassed, they are being intimidated.”

Disclosing that the democratic space is being reduced daily by Tinubu’s administration, Ibe said the current government plans to silence the opposition ahead of 2027.

“The democratic space is being reduced daily. The suspension of the governor and the lawmakers is unconstitutional, it’s illegal and is part of the permutations ahead of 2027 to ensure that there is no opposition whether is in the media, independent media whether it’s in the civil society, whether it’s in the political parties,” he added.
