Ex-Super Eagles forward Victor Ezeji allegedly arrested over N40m fraud

Police in Rivers State have arrested former Super Eagles forward, Victor Ezeji, over allegations of fraud involving dud cheques worth nearly N40m.
According to The Guardian, Ezeji was picked up by officers of the Rivers State Criminal Investigation Department on Monday, after weeks of surveillance.
It is understood that the 44-year-old and his wife, Celestina, purchased 60,000 litres of diesel from a businessman, Dagogo Emmanuel, in July.
They allegedly issued cheques totalling N39.8m, which later bounced.
The couple reportedly went into hiding before Ezeji was tracked down this week.
The former Enyimba striker admitted signing the cheques but denied direct involvement in the deal, insisting his wife handled the transaction. Celestina remains on the run.
Ezeji’s career spanned almost two decades, during which he played for Sharks, Dolphins, Sunshine Stars, Heartland, and Enyimba, where he lifted the CAF Champions League twice.
