Kano health agency warns public over suspected hemorrhagic fever cases

The Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) has raised alert after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported two suspected cases of a severe fever that causes bleeding in Abuja.

In a statement shared on its social media platforms, KNCDC called for heightened vigilance, citing Kano’s large population and its frequent business and travel links with other states as reasons for concern.

The agency confirmed that preliminary tests showed the patients do not have Ebola.

However, further investigations are underway to determine whether the cases may be linked to Lassa fever or Dengue fever.

KNCDC explained that “viral hemorrhagic fevers are among the most dangerous infectious diseases, typically causing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and abnormal bleeding.”

These illnesses can spread from animals to humans, or through contact with the blood and bodily fluids of infected persons.

The agency advised Kano residents to practice strict hygiene by washing hands regularly with soap or sanitizers, avoiding contact with people showing unexplained fever or bleeding, and limiting contact with wild animals.

It further urged the public to ensure meat is properly cooked before consumption and to seek medical care immediately if any symptoms appear.
