Troops arrest drug peddlers, recover illicit substances in Plateau


Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, OPEP, have arrested suspected drug peddlers and also recovered illicit drugs and substances in Plateau State.

Media Information Officer of the JTF OPEP, Maj. Samson Zhakom, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, said the successful operation took place when troops raided the hideout of the suspected criminal elements at Layin Sabon Kasuwa in Mangu Local Government Area of the state

In the statement, Maj. Zhakom said during the operation, troops arrested 25 suspected drug peddlers in possession of various substance suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and other illicit drugs and substances.

The OPEP spokesman stated that the raid was in a quest to rid the Joint Operations Area (JOA) of illicit drugs and substances which often drives violent and other criminal activities.

Maj. Zhakom also stated that the arrested suspects and recovered items are in custody and would be handed over to relevant agencies for prosecution in due course.

He added that the troops of the 3 Division/JTF OPEP will continue to address identified crimes that drives violent activities in the JOA, just as the Command will continue to partner with relevant agencies of government to tackle social vices and prosecute offenders to achieve a sane society.
