EPL: If you win title, it’s because of massive spending – Guardiola tells Arteta

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has said his Arsenal counterpart Mikel Arteta will win the Premier League title, just because he spent a lot on players.

Guardiola was speaking to reporters ahead of their trip to the Emirates this weekend.

According to him, clubs like Arsenal get more lenient treatment over their transfer expenditure compared to City.

Last summer, Arsenal spent £300million on new players, bringing their total expenditure since summer 2021 to over £900million. That figure narrowly exceeds City’s spending during the same timeframe.

“I want to say to my friend Mikel Arteta, if he wins the title, it will be just because he spent, not because he worked a lot or his players,” Guardiola said.

“It’s like Liverpool. If Arne (Slot) wins again, it will be because he spent a lot of money. Right? Because it’s not just Man City that happened. It’s for all of them.”
