Minister Announces Mediation In Chieftaincy Dispute Between Otumfuo & Dormaahene

The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has announced that the government is initiating plans to resolve the escalating dispute between two of Ghana’s most prominent traditional leaders: Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, the Dormahene.
The feud which has been in the news for sometime now is rooted in historical claims that Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II, who also serves as the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, believes have been misrepresented in the public domain.
In an interview with Peace FM, Minister Ibrahim confirmed that he has already engaged with several stakeholders and intends to mediate the dispute.

He noted the significant role of chieftaincy in national development, citing the Asantehene’s past intervention in the Dagbon conflict as a positive example of traditional leadership in resolving national issues.
“In Ghana, we can also use our Chieftaincy to develop the country. When we had the Dagbon issue, was it not Opemsuo who resolved it?” Ibrahim stated, while emphasizing his respect for the authority of both leaders.
The minister added that he has already begun preliminary discussions with key individuals regarding the matter and plans to engage them further.
This marks the first official announcement from the government regarding its direct intervention in the high-profile conflict.
